ISLAND DOME READY FOR ITS FIRST AUDIENCE

Our 20 meter dome on Jeju Island, South Korea is finished. After building the frame and special support truss, our team of expert installers used the ‘spider lift’ to stretch the cover over the frame and the screen inside. Then we installed the projectors, performed our fast and automatic calibration process and voila – a spectacular image waiting for its first audience!

SHOW ME FULLDOME CINEMA

Fulldome.pro made its first trip across the Tasman to demonstrate our 8-metre portable dome at the Show Me Wellington Expo in the New Zealand capital. In a busy day at TSB Arena, many visitors, including the Mayor of Wellington, and several business identities experienced fulldome cinema and marvelled at the range of content available in this exciting, immersive format.

ONE DOME, TWO DAYS, FIVE THOUSAND VISITORS!

Long queues formed at the Alto Pune Comic Con 2017 for the immersive fulldome cinema. We managed to pack up to forty guests into the 8-meter portable dome, but had to keep show times short so everyone had a chance to share in the magic. Over the two-day event over 5,000 people got a taste of the fulldome experience and, judging by the ‘oohs’ and ‘ahs’ emanating from the dome, they will be back for more next time.

“Holy 360 cinema Batman!”

Winter is coming…

“I stand for truth, justice, and… whatever”

“Would you like a little more tea?”

The queue tried to keep cool in the shade.

We’re not convinced either!

CORAL: REKINDLING VENUS COMES HOME FOR THE FIRST TIME

The stunning 2012 fulldome film “Coral: Rekindling Venus”, from renowned artist Lynette Wallworth, had never been shown in Sydney, where it was made. An 8-meter portable dome and the passion of John Maynard, the film’s producer, made it possible for the first time. In just four afternoons at Carriageworks, over 1300 people saw the film, many having their first fulldome cinema experience.

We also had our 3 meter STUDIO DOME on hand to demonstrate how production studios can use smaller domes to help with content creation and museums or galleries can use dome for small immersive video exhibitions.

OUR FIRST DOME IN AUSTRALIA IMPRESSES PLANETARIANS!

Fulldome.pro erected our first dome on Australian shores for the Australasian Planetarium Society Conference in Wollongong, NSW in Late February. The 8-metre portable dome was located in the light-filled atrium of The Central at the University of Wollongong’s Innovation Campus adjacent to the Science Centre & Planetarium. During the morning the dome was a hit with tenants of the building, who stopped by to see fulldome shows, then during the afternoon, conference attendees visited for a show case of fulldome content and explanation of the Fulldome.pro technology that made bringing high-quality content to temporary, portable dome possible.

After a day of dome building this looked like a good spot for dinner.

FULLDOME.PRO IS BEST IN SHOW AT IAAPI

Our team was recently in Mumbai for the Indian Association of Amusement Parks and Industries Expo. Our 8-meter portable dome certainly made an impression, winning Best Exhibition Booth in the foreign exhibitor category. Hardly surprising given the variety and quality of content shown inside the dome.

INSIDE OUTSIDE DOME AT IN88

Under signs for brands like Prada and Cartier, outside the upmarket IN88 mall in the Wangfujing shopping area of Beijing Fulldome.pro has set up a temporary 10 meter 360° immersive digital theatre. The dome was setup in time for the Moon (or Mid-Autumn) Festival on 15 September and remained in place until after National Day and the ‘golden week’ that followed. During that time, it is estimated that Beijing hosted 10 million domestic tourists! Those fortunate or patient enough to visit the dome were able to share in group immersive experiences with a range of shows of different genres – the thrills of a jump from space in “Flight of Fancy”, the entertaining and educational ride ride “Dino Planet”, the children’s animated show “Gopal: Prince of the Cow’s Planet”, ”Rosetta” – the story of a journey to the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerisamenko, and the planetarium type show “Solar System: A Wonderful Journey”. All shows proved popular with long queues forming throughout the day.

Portable domes and easy to setup and operate projection systems from Fulldome.pro make temporary attractions feasible and allow fulldome shows to reach audiences almost anywhere.

EXPLORING MIAO CULTURE IN SHENZHEN

Visitors to the 5th China Charity Fair in Shenzhen, China were drawn to the “big black ball” at the Chen Yidan Foundation exhibit. Those who queued for a closer look discovered the “ball” was actually an eight meter (25 foot) 360° digital dome theatre and, once inside, were treated to an immersive show exploring the cultural history of the Miao people. The Miao are one of over 50 officially recognized ethnic minorities in China and include the Hmong people, who have a large diaspora in South East Asia and beyond to the western world. The three-minute show was created specifically for the Chen Yidan Foundation by 360ART.pro. It features stunning animation based on a traditional Miao butterfly motif and a beautiful soundtrack.

At the conclusion of the fair the dome was relocated to a plaza in Shenzhen, where the public could continue to delight in the show. Portable domes and easy to setup projection systems from Fulldome.pro make short term installations like this feasible.

The Chen Yidan Foundation was established in 2013 by philanthropist and co-founder of internet giant Tencent, Charles Chen, to preserve and promote traditional Chinese culture and education.

A FLIGHT OF FANCY IN SHENZHEN

In September 2016, we installed a 10 meter (33 foot) diameter closed dome at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center for the 18th China International Optoelectronic Exposition (COIE). The four-day expo showcased cutting-edge innovations from the fields of as diverse as biophotonics, quantum communications, optics, and augmented and virtual reality technologies. There were almost 4,000 visitors to the dome, many of them new to fulldome cinema. They enjoyed the immersive thrills of “Flight of Fancy”, which takes the audience on a record breaking parachute jump from the edge of space, to a subterranean aquatic journey. Those who were a little more familiar with fulldome cinema were impressed by the portability of the dome and the ease of system operations. All agreed that there is a place for fulldome cinema outside of the traditional museum and science center environments and this was reflected in fresh interest from education technology companies in addition to the usual astronomical science organizations.

The dome was such a hit it drew the attention of China Central Television (CCTV), who interviewed our staff, to discuss the features and advantages of the Fulldome.pro system, the broad range of content available and how the modern digital environment and the latest dome and projection technology makes fulldome cinema an ideal media platform for art, education, entertainment and science.

FULLDOME.PRO IS A PLAYER ON THE PLAYA

In August 2016 our team braved the sun, wind, dirt and dust in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, once again, to realize the Museum of Visionary Artists (MOVA) Gallery for the annual community of dreamers on the playa. We set up a 12 meter closed dome, where participants could take a trip into their own minds with the help of the stunning visuals of Samskara and Luminokaya. When it was all over we packed up, shook of the dust and left the desert as we had found it – ready to welcome us back again.

WANDA IN FOR SOME WANDA-FUL ENTERTAINMENT

Fulldome.pro was at the China National Convention Center in Beijing for the 10th Wanda Group Annual Commercial Convention in August 2016. We were at the expo with our 5 meter closed dome and motion seating, demonstrating the immersive Dark Ride Dome solution which brings amusement park style entertainment to shopping centers and arcades.

The Wanda Group is the world’s largest private property developer and owner and has recently diversified into entertainment, through overseas acquisitions to become the world’s largest cinema chain operator. It has also developed several theme parks throughout China and has interests in sporting operations such as Spanish football team Atlético Madrid and the World Triathlon Corporation.

A HEMISPHERE HIGH IN THE HOLLYWOOD HILLS

As the August sun set over the Hollywood Hills, trapeze artists swung above the guests at a private mansion perched at the top of a canyon, the 7 meter (23 foot) dome on the lawn came to life with lasers playing on its outer shell. High above the skyline of Los Angeles the 600 lucky party goers enjoyed a variety of food and treats in the mansion and stunning immersive visuals in the dome. A four projector system showed content at 3K resolution, opening eyes to the potential of 360 immersive environments, entertaining audiences and blowing minds.
Portable domes and projection systems from Fulldome.pro make dome cinema practical for short term events like parties. Our small team was able to quickly set up the dome on the afternoon before the party and pack up again the morning after.

THE DOME SCENE IS BOOMING!

In August 2016 we were fortunate to be at the biennial Boom Festival, in a beautiful valley three hours from the Portuguese capital, Lisbon. The Boom festival began in 1997 as psychedelic and trance music festival and has grown to be one of the most amazing art and music festivals in Europe. The stunning venue, on the shores of Idanha-a-Nova Lake, attracts an audience from around the world to share the music, art, street theater, and sustainable community ethos. This year Fulldome.pro presented the Samskara project with Android Jones, the revered digital artist, and driving force behind the Museum of Visionary Art (MOVA) which presents the work of more than 20 artists from around world. The crown jewel of the MOVA Gallery at Boom was the 10 meter digital dome provided by Fulldome.pro. During the eight days of the festival more than 20,000 visitors had their minds blown by the second iteration of Samskara and a new show by Luminokaya “The Mystery of Angkor Wat”. Thank you friends for supporting us with your pure emotions and happy smiles -we can’t think of a better way to enjoy a European summer.
